Osaka, Japan - March 5, 2024 - The Netherlands officially kicked off construction for its pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, with a groundbreaking ceremony held today at the Expo site in Yumeshima.

The Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education, Culture and Science have commissioned Rotterdam’s Nieuwe Instituut to curate the cultural programme for the participation of the Netherlands at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai, Japan. Expo 2025 will take place from Sunday 13 April to Monday 13 October 2025.
The World Expo is a global stage where nations showcase their innovations and solutions for a better tomorrow. Starting in 1851 with the Great Exhibition in London, these grand events were initially a platform to showcase the latest inventions and industry from around the world.
In the Netherlands, the circular economy is seen as an essential approach to contributing positively to global issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. Systemic changes are needed to mitigate the negative impact of a linear economy and use resources efficiently. Therefore, a collaborative environment is needed to progress this global circular economy.
In a world faced with the dual challenges of feeding a growing population and mitigating the impacts of climate change, the importance of healthy plants cannot be overstated. Plants form the foundation of life on Earth, offering essential ecosystem services, ensuring food security, and helping to maintain biodiversity.
