Climate policy

We believe ambitious climate targets can lead to economic growth, with opportunities for innovation, new businesses and the creation of new jobs. The EU should set targets and implement policies and measures to limit global warming and become climate neutral by 2050. To reach these targets, we should involve all sectors of the economy and make the European budget Paris proof. Funding should be made available to make the transition possible.

Climate neutrality requires decarbonising the energy system, and adopting new, low-carbon technologies. A well-functioning internal energy market is necessary, so that targets for renewable energy and energy efficiency are achieved, without losing security of supply. To develop a more circular economy, new product and production regulations are required. Better design and use of products and better re-use of material will reduce both fossil resource consumption and emissions. Minimising emissions and closing raw material cycles is also a goal of circular agriculture, which should become a more attractive option through financial incentives. Sustainable and smart mobility should be promoted through sustainable fuels, vehicles and infrastructure.

Finally, climate change should also be a cornerstone of foreign, trade and development relations. The EU should take the lead in encouraging others to also make the transition.
